Endless play goes beyond the standard objective

Reaching the demo's normal finish does not describe the whole late-game challenge. Hull Rupture endless mode in the demo is a continuation beyond the standard 20-wave objective, while a separate Endless Mode is planned for the full release. Keeping those versions distinct explains why older players discuss very high waves without showing a separate mode-selection screen.

An April developer reply already confirmed that playtest runs could continue after 20 waves. The September update then described the demo's endless play as a continuation of Classic Mode, with a different structure intended for release.

What is available now, and what is planned?

The September 14 demo announcement says Endless Mode received balance adjustments, but the developers still intended to turn it into its own mode at launch. The September 25 follow-up adds that the separate mode will have its own settings so it can be balanced and optimized independently.

As of October 30, 2026, the full release is still planned for November 4. The announcements do not establish the final settings, every unlock condition, or a complete release-version difficulty curve. Do not treat planned controls as buttons that must already exist in the demo.

Prepare for a longer run without trusting an old build blindly

Late-game play asks your economy and defenses to keep working together. Before extending a run, check that production supports the weapons you are constructing, that upper and lower routes have useful firing coverage, and that surviving enemies are not overwhelming the Airlock.

Those checks matter more than copying an early leaderboard composition. The September update weakened some unit-focused defenses and emphasized turrets, while also changing the shop, hull expansion, and resource progression. A strategy described before those changes may depend on a different balance.

Info Mode can help inspect current resource income, but its per-minute figure is not a forecast. A production cap or changing input supply can interrupt the rate you see. Use the current ship state to guide the next expansion rather than assuming the economy will scale automatically with the wave number.

Know the late-game performance limitation

In the September 25 notes, the developers specifically acknowledged slowdowns after wave 40 and said the demo's Endless balance had again exceeded their expectations. They also distinguished bugs causing performance problems from general performance work.

That is an acknowledged demo limitation, not proof that wave 40 is a hard cap or that every computer will behave identically. Nor do the notes promise a particular workaround. If a late run becomes slow, the available announcement does not justify claiming that a certain turret composition or graphics toggle will fix it.

The official Hull Rupture demo announcements provide the current balance and release-plan context; the developer's earlier endless-play reply confirms the playtest history.

FAQ

Does the demo stop at 20 waves?

Twenty waves and the final boss are the standard demo objective, but the developer sources also describe continuing into endless play.

Is the separate Endless Mode already part of the demo?

The September announcements describe it as a full-release plan. Demo endless play is described as a continuation of Classic Mode.

Is wave 40 the maximum?

The developers discuss slowdowns after wave 40, not a fixed wave-40 ending. Their notes do not establish an ultimate wave limit or a guaranteed performance fix.
